Anthophobia
I found this short film on Vimeo by searching 'award winning short films,' It is about how plants come to live to rebel against how humans are mistreating the earth. It was released on September 9th 2015 and was directed by Valentin petit. Anthophobia is the fear or morbid dislike of flowers which the producers would have taken into consideration when filming as this seems relevant to the story line.
From this short film I will be talking about
- Narrative
- Genre
- Representation
The narrative of this this short story, is not very clear. This is because it does not follow traditional media conventions. However, this does make is different and some may say its better because of this as it does not follow the same format of equilibrium, problem and solution.
The genre of this short film is most likely a thriller. This is as it has thriller conventions such as shocking the audience. This could be classed as a psychological thriller or conspiracy thriller as it has a strange story line making the audience think different things and become very confused with what is happening.
The representation of characters allows us to find out more about the short film. The two people on horses at the beginning are represented in an evil way. This is as there faces are not shown and they are threatening people. This creates enigma as we don't know who or what they are.
In this short film we are not given much to go off in the case if representation due to how it was constructed. Although it does create a lot of enigma, it leaves holes in the story. However, the person we can assume is the main character as we see him the most is represented to be a person of higher class. This is as he lives in what we see to be a very large house inferring he has a good job or in heir to a rich family.
From this short film, i took inspiration from the power of body language and facial expression. This is as there is little to no dialogue from the characters however, it does affect us as we can see how the characters are feeling which makes the audience more involved with the short film.
Jake - it's good to see that you have highlighted key concepts here, but you need to do more than describe in order to access higher grades. More length and detail is needed, using detailed examples and media language. For genre, you are really applying AS work, rather than A2. Where are the semantic codes, syntactic codes etc? These need to be here.
